CompTIA Cloud Essentials Certification Success

Finished the CompTIA Cloud Essentials CLO-001 exam this afternoon and I was pleased both with the exam content and my 889/900 (see the score report below). The exam was unusual in nature in that it was only 50 questions (as opposed to the usual 100 questions on most CompTIA certification exams. Exam content pretty much mirrored the sort of questions you would expect by focusing your study efforts on the Cloud Essentials Exam Objectives. Good news is that I didn’t spend a lot of time studying and was more than adequately prepared to pass the exam. I’m taking a couple of weeks off to focus on relaxation and get ready for both the BATEC SharePoint class and the CSSIA EMC storage class that I’ll be taking before the fall semester starts at Sierra.

Success on CompTIA Server+, Next Targeted Certification is CompTIA Cloud Essentials

Passed the SK0-003 Server+ exam this morning with a score of 893/900. Passing was a 750 so I had plenty of cushion and it looks like I missed a single question. I actually know which one it was, requiring a pure guess that was apparently wrong. Without violating the non-disclosure agreement, in general terms it was one of those inappropriate questions which asks you to identify a specific number that stretches a human’s imagination on just how large a number can be (something akin to asking us how high a stack of one dollar bills would be if the stack represented a trillion dollars). My scoring sheet is shown below.

My next CompTIA attempt, the Cloud Essentials exam, shouldn’t be all that challenging given certifications that I already hold that relate to virtualization and cloud computing. I’m thinking of taking it next Monday, a day before I depart for a week’s vacation. Goal in doing so is it will enable me to focus on SharePoint, the five-day class I will be taking in Boston from July 29th to August 2nd that is provided at the BATEC National Summer Institute. Once I complete the Microsoft SharePoint 2010 course, I plan to focus efforts on studying for the Microsoft SharePoint 2010, Configuring 70-667 exam even though the actual course appears more in line with what a SharePoint power user might need to know. That will likely be the final exam I take before the Fall Semester begins.  A productive summer given all of the certifications I’ve managed to complete and plan to complete.

Microsoft Technology Associate (MTA) Certifications

A while back Microsoft developed a line of technology certifications that are geared towards academic institutions providing courses focused on infrastructure, database, and development tracks.  As part of a promotional effort I received an email yesterday from Microsoft and Prometric, providing the opportunity as a Microsoft Certified Trainer to take one of the MTA certification exams at no cost.  Today I completed the contract CISSP training class I was teaching in San Diego around 2:30p.m. and asked the students to take the “final exam,” consisting of 100 practice questions, providing a 90 minute time period for its completion.

The training center also serves as a Prometric testing site, so rather than simply watch while the students completed their final exam, I thought a good use of the time would be to take an MTA exam.  I had the exam proctor schedule the MTA Security Fundamentals 98-367 exam.  The exam consisted of thirty-five (35) questions that took about 30 minutes to complete.  With a passing score of 70, I scored a 97, likely reflecting one missed question.  Based upon the information provided on the MTA certification webpage, I guess I now hold an MTA certification.  You can view my score sheet below.

With a break in teaching, I’m going to get back to focusing on HIT Pro certifications.  Next planned certification activity is taking the Implementation Manager certification.  I’m going to try to get it before the end of the year.

Now A Current MCSE — No Need to Take 70-247 Exam

Luck is on my side.  This evening I reviewed my Microsoft transcript with the purpose of seeing if my passing the 70-246 would show.  It was there, but more surprisingly at the top of the list of “Active Microsoft Certifications” was the “Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert.”  I thought it was a mistake, but it isn’t (see the graphic below).  On a web page describing the new MCSE certification, the following line explains why I have the certification:

“Until January 31, 2013, you can take Exam 659 in place of 247 to count towards the Private Cloud certification.”

The 70-659 was one of the required exams I took to obtain the MCITP: Virtualization Administration certification. Needless to say, I’m really thrilled at the opportunity to avoid spending the money and taking the 70-247 exam.  So now I can return to working on the HIT Pro Trainer certification.

One final note with regard to this new MCSE.  It looks as though it has a continuing education requirement.  The same web page states:

“This MCSE certification requires you to show continued ability to perform in your chosen solution area by completing a recertification exam every three years.”

Passed the 70-246 Microsoft Exam — One More Exam for MCSE Certification

Managed to take and pass the 70-246 Microsoft Certification exam (Monitoring and Operating a Private Cloud with System Center 2012) today.  See score sheet below (785/1000).  That gets me to a point where I need to take and pass the 70-247 exam to achieve Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert (MCSE) certification.  Plan since I’ll be teaching a CISSP class during the daylight hours next week is to focus my evening and weekend study efforts on this exam and see if I can get prepared enough to take the exam on Monday, December 17th.  I will only have that day available because I’m leaving on the 19th for Jacksonville, Florida to take a two (2) day class on the NetLab+ product that I can hopefully use for my classes next fall semester.

MCSA – Server 2012

The relatively long process associated with studying the MOC (Microsoft Official Curriculum), books, and utilizing my friend Google, resulted in success in the testing booth this morning.  Passed the 70-417 exam with good scores (925/887/833), with a minimum passing score of 700 necessary (see scoring sheet below).  This 70-417 exam is a shortcut to the 70-410, 70-411, and 70-412 exams.  Having previously achieved the MCITP certification, taking this single exam enabled me to achieve the Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate (MCSA) Windows Server 2012 certification.

Since my recent focus has been on virtualization technology (VMware vSphere and Microsoft Hyper-V), next on the test taking agenda are the 70-246 and 70-247 certifications, which when passed will complete the exams required for the Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert (MCSE) Private Cloud certification.

I’d love to knock out the these two certification exams during semester break (12/10 to 01/28), but have some other things on my agenda, that I may have to let slide (considering not taking the Java training class in mid January).

Success on the Implementation Support Specialist Exam

Like the Technical/Software Support exam, it took me slightly over an hour to complete the 125 question Implementation Support Specialist exam.  Once again the principles I lay out in my Intelligent Guessing technique website worked.  With an apparent maximum score of 600, I’m pleased with my 576 (passing score is 500).  Thankfully given my 54% score in the “Terminology in Heal Care and Public Health Settings,” I’m glad most of the focus for this exam is on IT related subjects. Below is the exam scoring sheet and the “suitable for framing” certificate.  I still remain confused as to whether I am now hold a HIT Pro certificate, certification, credential, or ?  Again, perhaps one of you could enlighten me.

Next certification effort will be the Microsoft 70-417 exam that relates specifically to Windows Server 2012.  Passing it will result in me satisfying the MCSA 2012 certification (since I currently hold the MCITP: Virtualization Administration certification). After that I will start working to pass the remaining certification exams necessary to obtain the new MCSE: Private Cloud certification (Exams 70-246 and 70-247).

HIT Pro Information Support Specialist Exam Scheduled

I just set the exam date for Sunday, November 25th.  I’m feeling comfortable about taking the HIT Pro Implementation Support Specialist (ISS) exam.  Component 3 primarily focuses on medical terminology, which is certainly not one of my strong points.  But since that represents only one of the seven components that are the focus on this exam and I did reasonably well on the Technical/Software Support (TSS) exam that was covered in the other six components, I am more confident going into the ISS exam than I was the TSS exam.  I’l post my results on Sunday.

After this exam I am going to start focusing on the Windows Server 2012 exam series.  The initial exam will be the 70-417 exam.  Based upon what I’m reading this will give me the MCSA 2012 certification.  From there I’ll need to take two additional exams and I’ll have Micrusoft’s new MCSE certification.
