What’s Next in the Certification World — (ISC)2 Certified Cyber Forensics Professional

My next focus relating to certification was going to be the CompTIA Storage+ exam. But, given the recent posting by CompTIA that “it has reached the end of its life, will not be available after January 15, 2016, and will not be replaced,” I’ve decided to skip this certification.

So I guess that brings me to getting to work on the CCFP certification issued by (ISC)2. In June I received a notification by the organization that I qualified for its “faculty voucher” program, designed to encourage academic faculty to participate in the profession and certification process.

My primary concern about the certification relates to its industry recognition. The count as of September 1st according to the (ISC)2 “Member Count” webpage, there were 102 CCFPs in the world (86 in the US). Hardly a large number given the current count of CISSPs in the United State was listed at 66,993.

But with a free voucher in hand, I think it is worth my time and energy to go forward and start studying. The book I’m using is the Official (ISC) Guide to the CCFP CBK. I’m guessing this will be a “semester break” effort, so don’t expect a blog posting before the end of the year.
